When I discovered the concept of fasting for weight loss it was really interesting to discover what information was “out there” on the internet.
The thing is that the fasting information was coming from “new age” type websites where fasting was discussed a lot from a spiritual perspective rather than fasting for weight loss. I’m just not into the spiritual stuff but I am very into health and fitness. I’m concerned about long term health as well as the prevention of disease.
The other thing is that these fasting for health sites were talking about 5 day fasts, 20 day fasts and even 30 day fasts! I’m not doing that! There was even one site that had a 9 month fasting for weight loss and detoxification program.
9 MONTHS! Does it have to be that hard?
The problem with these types of programs is that everyone has a rush of enthusiasm at the start but very quickly they burn out and don’t finish the program.
It’s just too hard mentally to try and work through a marathon fasting program like that. Then, when people give up, they feel like they have failed and this lowers the motivation to try again.
It’s easy to start developing beliefs that fasting for health is too hard or impossible to achieve. You can start feeling a lot of resentment towards other people that appear to be healthy and happy. Or worse… if you are suffering from disease or illness, you start punishing yourself, thinking… WHY ME? What Have I Done Wrong?
The thing is… You Shouldn’t Feel Defeated and Helpless
These alternative health sites put a lot of emphasis on starting a fasting program, but they don’t do much about support during the program or even how to finish healthy fasting. The real secret is that you don’t really finish healthy fasting. You need to adopt fasting into your current lifestyle (which is easier than you might realise).
Fasting for Health
Whether it’s fasting for weight loss, fasting for health, intermittent fasting or if you are just interested in the benefits of fasting. You have to stop thinking about it like it’s a program that has a beginning and an end.
Once you adopt healthy fasting into your current lifestyle you will find it to be very flexible and VERY EASY to do.
Do you need to profoundly change your lifestyle? I doubt it…
You may need to eat a lower volume of food if your goal is weight loss and that’s not hard. We can talk about that… Combine that with the right way of fasting for weight loss and you can be guaranteed of successful weight loss.
